Writing Teacher

I have been teaching creative writing courses for over 20 years, developing programs for students as young as Grade 4, up to retirees. I offer:

  • In-class one-day/afternoon workshops
  • Multi-week workshops
  • Semi-private, at-home groups
  • Manuscript evaluations
  • Writer mentorships

I specialize in how to write short fiction, with an emphasis on the importance of freewriting and trusting your imagination. For younger writers, my multi-week program covers settings, characters, problems/solutions (i.e. plot), self-editing and peer editing. Most importantly, I believe in supportive space and encouraging writers, wherever they are at, to tell the stories that are meaningful for them.

Testimonials

Sidura's workshops were engaging and allowed the students to explore writing in creative ways.  They were encouraged to focus on developing characters and spending time actually imagining what it would be like to be those people.  This helped them to write more realistic and effective pieces.  They were then able to apply that learning to their classroom writing going forward.

Testimonials

My grade 4 students really enjoyed Sidura's creative approach to writing. She taught my students the importance of starting with free writing and then edit for errors later. She also put a great emphasis on the value of using descriptive words to add a personal and memorable perspective to their writing This creative approach taught by Sidura in her writing workshops brought out a different side to my students' writing.

Testimonials

Motivating students to write freely is not always an easy task. Having Sidura come into our classrooms and inspire our students through her interactive and hands-on approach definitely made a difference. Not only did the students complete Sidura's assignment, but they were motivated to continue writing after too. This was a very worthwhile program for teachers and students alike.

- Faye Rewald, Teacher

Testimonials

It always stood out to me that Sidura wrote quietly alongside us when we delved into a writing exercise. This is so much the person and teacher she is: down-to-earth, encouraging, open to whatever ride we were embarking on together. She took us seriously, offered carefully chosen words of guidance, and worked through our drafts kindly and honestly. I walked out of each session inspired and excited about writing.

Testimonials

Sidura's work on our Passover Ask resulted in an increase in donations over the previous year. Her compelling writing brought the story of Veronica and her daughter to life and did a great job of illustrating how previous donations helped improve their situation. From there, it was easy to ask for more!

Testimonials

Sidura worked on the school's e-newsletters for four years. She created for us the perfect template, taking into consideration the needs of each of our campuses as well as the wants of our parent audience. The e-newsletters have become a wonderful and successful marketing and communications tool for our parents, our key constituent group. Sidura has also been an instrumental member of our We Are Associated magazine team doing both writing and editing for it. Her expertise, understanding of the content and strategic vision have made the magazine a key marketing and engagement piece for the school.

Sidura has also become a lead ambassador for the school, heading up the Parent Ambassador team for our north campus. She trains the volunteers and staff in how to market and brand the school in word-of-mouth marketing, social media marketing and face-to-face meetings with prospective families. She is a pleasure to work with-always professional, reliable and with a smile on her face.
